Looking for unique summer activities? Explore within Minnesota’s only castle! The American Swedish Institute museum and cultural center hosts incredible summer events designed for all-ages.

The American Swedish Institute museum and cultural center announces a winter-to-spring schedule of programs for every age and interest in language, cooking, and crafts; fun happenings in the cozy Turnblad mansion, including a series of unique events perfect for every age. We have something for everyone!

Public and Group tours:

Discover the history of the Turnblad Mansion and Turnblad Family on a dynamic and interactive guided tour led by ASI educators. With exclusive access to ASI content experts, these group tours offer an up-close and unique experience for groups.

$20 per person for groups of 10-30 people. Includes museum admission. Unique meal and refreshment options available such as cookies, cocktails or a full Swedish smörgåsbord. Catering price varies, starting at $10 per person.

• Free Thursday nights: Live Music May 4, June 1, July 6, Aug 3. 6 -7 pm.
Courtyard performances, included with museum admission and open to all.

• Free Thursday nights: Makers Nights May 18, June 22, July 20, August 17, 6–8 pm.
Open to anyone interested in craft –come work in community and share conversation, tips, and questions. Bring a project to work on and any tools you need and drop in for as long as you like. Free; registration not required.

• Free Thursday nights: Culture & Conversation Series May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17
Hear from different thought leaders on various subjects surround Swedish culture and history. Free; registration not required.

• Book talk: The Bones of Birka: Unraveling the Mystery of a Female Viking Warrior Book Launch Fri, May 19, 6–8 pm
Join author C.M. Surrisi in conversation with Uppsala University Archaeologists Neil Price and Charlotte Hedenstierna-Jonson for the launch of Surrisi’s The Bones of the Birka, where the author introduces young readers to the events that led up to this discovery of a female Viking warrior grave and the impact it has had on scientists’ and historians’ views of gender roles in ancient societies and today. $17 ($12 ASI member)

• Spring Kubb League Thursdays, May 4–25, 6–8 pm
By popular demand, ASI is hosting its first spring Kubb League! Teams of three will participate in League. Play for the first three weeks in May culminating in the League Tournament on May 25. All ages and skill levels welcome! $60 per team

• Åh snaps! Swedish Drinking Songs Workshop Thu, June 8, 6:30–8 pm.
Learn how to skål properly to celebrate like a true Swede! Purchase a drink from FIKA and join us in the courtyard for a fun evening. $18 ($15 ASI members).

•Walking tours – June 8, June 22, July 13, July 27, August 10, August 24, September 14, September 28
Explore the area of Minneapolis once known as The Golden Mile on this guided walking tour of the blocks surrounding ASI. Discover the architecture, stories, and cultures of the neighborhood—past and present—and learn how this vibrant neighborhood has changed over time.

The Turnblad Mansion, ASI Museum Store, and Fika Café will be open before and after the tour for a complete experience.

ASI is located at 2600 Park Avenue in Minneapolis. Open 10 am to 8 pm on Thursdays, and 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. General admission is free for ASI members and children five and under. $6 for ages 6 to 18 and students of all ages. $12 for adults. $8 for seniors age 62 and over. Walk-up museum admission is available, or register in advance.
