The exhibit, housed in the Nature Center’s Interpretive Center, is an interactive experience, which includes a video titled “Return of Mussels: From Pearls and Pollution to a Scientific Solution”.

The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center debuted its new exhibit dedicated to mussels and their impacts on the good health of Austin’s water systems. The exhibit, housed in the Nature Center’s Interpretive Center, is an interactive experience, which includes a video titled “Return of Mussels: From Pearls and Pollution to a Scientific Solution,” a large wall-mounted map of Austin and its waterways and a large touch-and-feel model of a clam 12 times the size of a real mussel. On another wall is a large mural showing both an above and underwater scene resembling the ecosystem of Austin’s own Dobbins Creek.

Take time to enjoy the miles of trails at the Nature Center with “Action Track Chairs”. Newly added Here at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center we are focusing on the increase of accessibility of our facility and trails. Three track power chairs were purchased fall of 2021 to allow for patrons with mobility challenges to have the freedom of still traversing all of our 9 miles of trails on property for free.

The track power chairs are easy to use and nature center staff will give you a tutorial before you set out.
These chairs can be reserved for 2 hours for FREE!! Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are preferred.
