Hoċokata Ti’s public exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, provides visitors with a hands-on experience that will enhance their knowledge and understanding of the Mdewakanton Dakota people and their history.
Whether guests prefer to explore the exhibit on their own or desire a group-guided tour, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake will provide guests with a traditional Mdewakanton Dakota experience unlike any other.
Bring history to life and let one of our professional cultural interpreters guide your group through the exhibit as they provide insight into the meaning behind the displays and artifacts. Sit within a traditional Dakota tipi, touch the hides of animals traditionally hunted by the Dakota people, hear the words of the Dakota language and more. Our immersive and interactive exhibit gives individuals a better understanding of Mdewakanton lifeways that can’t be experienced through books. Plan your visit by filling out our request form at hocokatati.org/group-field-trips.
