Looking for unique summer activities? Explore within Minnesota’s only castle! The American Swedish Institute museum and cultural center hosts incredible summer events designed for everyone.

The American Swedish Institute museum and cultural center announces a summer schedule of programs for every age and interest in language, cooking, and crafts; fun happenings in the historic Turnblad mansion, including a series of unique events perfect for every age. We have something for everyone!

•Midsommar Celebration! Sat, June 17 10am-5pm
Dating back to ancient times, Midsommar is a tradition that welcomes back warm weather and marks the longest day of the year. It’s celebrated by making fresh-flower head wreaths, singing songs, listening to live music, and dancing around the midsommarstång (maypole)—all hallmarks of this family-friendly festival at ASI.

This year, ASI’s Midsommar Celebration will feature performances by lynx lynx, Hanneke Cassel, Mike Block, and a summertime dance party featuring Jake Rudh, longtime DJ, MPR radio host, and founder of Transmission.

Advance ticket registration is required to attend this event. Walk-up sales will be available after 1 pm.

•Walking tours – June 22, July 13, July 27, August 10, August 24, September 14, September 28
Explore the area of Minneapolis once known as The Golden Mile on this guided walking tour of the blocks surrounding ASI. Discover the architecture, stories, and cultures of the neighborhood—past and present—and learn how this vibrant neighborhood has changed over time.

Public and Group tours:

Discover the history of the Turnblad Mansion and Turnblad Family on a dynamic and interactive guided tour led by ASI educators. With exclusive access to ASI content experts, these group tours offer an up-close and unique experience for groups.

$20 per person for groups of 10-30 people. Includes museum admission. Unique meal and refreshment options available such as cookies, cocktails or a full Swedish smörgåsbord. Catering price varies, starting at $10 per person.

• Free Thursday nights: Live Music July 6, Aug 3. 6 -7 pm.
Courtyard performances, included with museum admission and open to all.

• Free Thursday nights: Makers Nights June 22, July 20, August 17, 6–8 pm.
Open to anyone interested in craft –come work in community and share conversation, tips, and questions. Bring a project to work on and any tools you need and drop in for as long as you like. Free; registration not required.

• Free Thursday nights: Culture & Conversation Series June 15, July 20, August 17
Hear from different thought leaders on various subjects surround Swedish culture and history. Free; registration not required.

• Åh snaps! Swedish Drinking Songs Workshop Thu, June 8, 6:30–8 pm.
Learn how to skål properly to celebrate like a true Swede! Purchase a drink from FIKA and join us in the courtyard for a fun evening. $18 ($15 ASI members).

ASI is located at 2600 Park Avenue in Minneapolis. Open 10 am to 8 pm on Thursdays, and 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. General admission is free for ASI members and children five and under. $6 for ages 6 to 18 and students of all ages. $12 for adults. $8 for seniors age 62 and over. Walk-up museum admission is available, or register in advance.
