NATIONAL EAGLE CENTER | Kids Enjoy Fishing on the Refuge!

Jul 13, 2023

Kids ages 15 and under fish for FREE when they go Fishing in the Refuge at the National Eagle Center every Thursday and Saturday this summer. Learn about fishing, the Mississippi River, and watch wild Bald Eagles!

The National Eagle Center sits on the banks of the Mississippi River and is a perfect location for fishing. Bald Eagles know this and it’s why they gather along this stretch of the river during the winter. Each summer, we offer kids ages 15 and under the opportunity to experience fishing since they do not require a license in the state of Minnesota. Fishing on the Refuge provides everything they need: the poles, the tackle, and the life vests. We use this opportunity to teach about enjoying the outdoors responsibly, especially the importance of using lead-free tackle to prevent the unintentional poisoning of Bald Eagles and other species of birds and animals.

Fishing on the Refuge is FREE with paid admission to the Center (no additional fee). The Center will have a member of staff or volunteer on-site to assist participants.

All fishing with National Eagle Center equipment is catch and release.

Minnesota residents 15 and under do not need a fishing license. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Non-residents must have a valid MN fishing license.

A valid credit card is required to check out equipment. Lost or damaged equipment may be subject to charges. You must adhere to all Minnesota fishing and water safety rules.
